BearHammer Games are developing a virtual reality (VR) application that gameifies music-guided movements in a natural outdoor setting via four styles of movement input and gameplay inspired by martial arts and fitness: Archery, Ropes, Throw/Air-punch, and Bo staff.
The game alternates between moments of higher intensity fitness set to music and moments of restorative fitness and stress reduction that encourage low intensity movement and stretching in cozy environment.
In the relaxing environment of the game, users can interact with their surroundings by doing relaxing activities at their own pace, with possible examples such as shooting down an apple hanging from a tree, collecting gems using ripple movements from ropes, and interacting with books in a cozy library.
In areas of the game which support free-form dancing, specific movements initiate responses from the environment, making leaves and butterflies swirl around the user. The music and environments will behave in unison, triggered by the user's movements. Our application will offer an unparalleled combination of visuals, intricate user movements, and custom music matching our environments, moods, and objectives.
This project innovates on the VR fitness genre by introducing fantasy elements to rhythm based gameplay not seen before in VR, allowing players to experience both the excitement and relaxation of being a wizard in a fantasy environment.
The Creative Catalyst Grant allows our team to complete the development of an application prototype. This prototype will secure porting grants to VR platforms, increasing the overall success rate of our product.
