On November 29, 2022, the Safe Mekong Coordination Center in Taunggyi Township of Shan State was inaugurated.
The project was funded by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund and supported by the Myanmar Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The total project cost was a total of MMK 852.77 million ($499,400).
The purpose of this project was to clamp down on drug smuggling along the Mekong River, to share information about drug trafficking, and host meetings with other Mekong countries. It is unclear when the construction of this center began.
Safe Mekong Coordination Centre opens in Myanmar’s Shan State Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
