Grant Description

On December 9, 2022, Vice President Dr Teuea Toato and H.E. Ambassador Tang Songgen met for an exchange of letters regarding a desalination plant.

This is a major project from China in response to the continued state of drought, even after the donation of solar pumps, water tanks, Jerry cans and cash grant for building and logistics in August.

Under the coordination of Kiribati government, this project includes the procurement of a brand new desalination plant with the capacity of 250KL/day, the installation work and site instruction in Nanikai, TUC, and connection to the existing PUB pipeline. It is the immediate solution to clean water shortage in TUC and the entire South Tarawa.
