In 2022, the Chinese Government pledged to build a national anti-narcotics laboratory in Papua New Guinea.
The purpose of this laboratory is to boost the capabilities of PNG amidst growing transnational organized criminal activities. The laboratory will be specifically used for testing of suspicious drugs and illegal items entering Papua New Guinea.
The Chinese government provided a donor grant of PGK 10,000,000 to the Papua New Guinea Police Department for an Anti-Narcotics Laboratory. PGK 1,000,000 went to training, while the other PGK 9,000,000 was allocated for the plant, equipment, and machinery.
