Grant Description

Claire Buckle a retired GB international para athlete founded Ability Consultancy. An equality, diversity and inclusion training and education service specialising in disability awareness. Claire has Cerebral Palsy (CP) but has not let it stand in the way of following her dreams and encouraging other disabled people to have aspirations and live the life they want to live.

In her younger days, Claire suffered bullying and discrimination on a daily basis. It was only when Claire started to succeed in athletics that many people took her seriously and didn't think "oh she is just having a go"! She started to achieve against all the odds and is driven to help other disabled people have the opportunities she had starting from an earlier age.

This attitude led to her founding Ability Consultancy to change the perceptions of disability and disabled people in society so that they can "live, learn and earn" like anybody else.

Ability Consultancy is not just a training and education company it employs other disabled people to share their life experiences to talk about their disability openly and honestly how it has impacted their lives and how the attitudes of others have often had a negative impact on what they do.

So what does Ability Consultancy do that other disability training companies don't? Well, we offer accredited courses bespoke workshops we offer consultancy to organisations to ensure they are inclusive and accessible and most of all compliant with the equality act 2010\. We pride ourselves on offering practical sessions allowing everyone we work with and train to experience disability first hand.

It is out of their comfort zone, but it gives them a chance to experience a tiny bit of what disabled people have to go through every day.

Born out of our daily interactions for training and education we are developing a 'one-stop-shop disability awareness platform and interactive app integrating the latest technologies available to bring disability to life in any environment this could be schools, organisations, inside or outside spaces or even in different countries.
