The 9th Chinese medical team to Malawi arrived on November 14th, 2021, after departing China on November 12th.
The 9th batch of 17 medical team members to aid Malawi was led by the Affiliated Hospital of Yan'an University and composed of front-line business backbones from nine tertiary medical units affiliated to the health commissions of Baoji City, Tongchuan City, Yan'an City, and Yulin City, involving internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, anesthesiology, imaging, and acupuncture.
The captain of the team is Zhong Hongping.
The team of 17 Chinese medical personnel worked in Malawi's health facilities, main referral hospital for the central region, Kamuzu Central Hospital, situated in the capital, Lilongwe. Eight members of the team also worked in Malawi's northern referral hospital in Mzuzu.
The team worked under the leadership of the National Health Commission and the Shaanxi Provincial Health Commission, as well as with the support of the Chinese Embassy in Malawi.
While in Malawi, they performed various activities including holding free clinics and donating anti-epidemic materials to villagers in Malawi (see Record ID#100115). They returned to China on December 2nd, 2022.
The Chinese Government, and Shaanxi Province specifically, have previously sent medical teams to Malawi, as captured in projects 57900, 57899, 58016, 58015, 35021, 23346 and 35417.
