Grant Description

Nanoparticle arrays are used in a wide range of applications, but have not been exploited at all for the removal of domestic atmopsheric pollutants.

Codikoat propose using a novel combination of nanoparticles and a scaffold that generates a small charge when exposed to light. This will create, in effect, a molecular filter that will be able to trap pollutants such as small particles, sulphur dioxide and NOx. By applying this scaffold to materials used in domestic appliances such as cooker hoods, air filters and air conditioning units, we aim to produce a cheap and effective way of cleaning air in the home.

This three month project will demonstrate the technical and commercial feasibility of this idea, prior to real world testing in Phase 2\.
