Treatment of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) from landfill leachate usin novel membrane distillation (MD) technology

The purpose of the project is to purify landfill leachate from PFAS using an energy-efficient method based on membrane distillation and electrochemical oxidation of the membrane concentrate.

The main objective is to optimize the membrane distillation process and investigate how effective it is for different PFAS contaminants.

A cost-benefit analysis will be conducted to investigate whether membrane distillation has the potential for large-scale use as an alternative standard technology for the treatment of PFAS and other contaminants in landfill leachate.
