Grant Description

Innovacin y Apoyo Educativo, A.C. (IAE), will strengthen five student councils in schools in Chiapas and four Consejos Comunitarios de Participacin Social en la Educacin (COCOPASE) whose members are drawn from teachers, parents and students working to improve education. Exchanges will offer opportunities to learn from each other.

Students can apply for subgrants to fund their proposals for better schools.

Additional funding will be used to train more than 1,500 parents, educators, students and other residents of the municipality of las Margaritas, Chiapas, to deliberate and reach consensus on the allocation of the municipal education budget.

Participants will learn democratic practices and will craft education policy around the school as a place of learning that also furthers civic involvement.
